The gift of love is not to the other, but to ourselves. It reminds me of a story about my daughter, a wonderful gift of love. One morning I went to wake her for school, I tickled her and played with her hair and told her it was time to get up. When she opened her eyes, she smiled and I asked her, "How did you get to be so beautiful? You are the most beautiful creature I've ever seen!" and she responded: "Mommy, don't you know, the more you love me the more beautiful I become!" If we could extend that love to our neighbors, co-workers, friends etc. . . just imagine how beautiful they could all become! This is so true. The gift of love is not to the other, but to ourselves.
